10 Persuasive Speech Tips for Your Persuasive Speeches

  1. Choose a subject about which you feel strongly. You will be more persuasive
  2. Open by stating your belief e.g. that smoking should be banned worldwide
  3. Give reasons for your belief
  4. Describe how things can be improved in accordance with your belief.
  5. Tailor your speech to your audience. Teenagers won't care about cancer in old age but would hate to be thought smelly by the opposite sex. So if you are speaking about smoking that would be the angle to take if you had a young audience.
  6. Know your facts but don't give too many,
  7. Try to give word pictures e.g Smoking kills more people than the plague.
  8. Your speech should be persuasive in tone, not aggressive
  9. Keep it short. Audiences have a short attention span.
  10. Summarise your speech and end on a memorable note.
