DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
LMA’s are required to keep a daily online journal that is to be emailed to the librarian every other week. To receive full credit, the email subject line should have student's name and date (Example: John's Journal 20Aug2011) . The journal will serve as documentation when there is a question about grades. Students should write in complete sentences and include:
- Station Assignment: Example: My station assignment for the week was the Circulation Desk.
- Duties completed (Include only the days you had library class that week.)
Example:
Monday, 9Aug2011 - Today I completed a map of the library.
Wednesday, 11Aug2011 - I went to my magnet class today. The librarian was absent.
Friday, 13Aug2011 - I showed students how to use the Alabama Virtual Library.
Tuesday, 17,Aug2011 - I read shelves today and straightened my area of responsibility.
Thursday, 19,Aug2011 - School was closed because of inclement weather.
- Reading: Students are required to read 1 book each 9 weeks.
Example: Author, Title of book, Pages read, Annotation when finish book.
- Character education: How character ed for the week relates to library service.
- Word Up: Create a RWT crossword puzzle using the Word Up words.
- Alabama Virtual Library database: Preview database of the month.
Attach assignments and send via email whenever possible.
EXCEPTIONS:
Students will be given a grade on their
- Duties (Daily Job Performance)
- Class assignments (Tests/Assignments).
Journal entries should be in complete sentences using correct grammar.
STUDENT LIBRARY PASSES:
Check each library pass for complete information:
- Teacher signature
- Student's full name (Only one name per pass!)
- Date/time
Request each student that enters the library to sign in and note the following:
FIRST/LAST NAME TEACHER TIME IN/OUT* BLOCK COMPUTER USE
A student should not leave the library during the period without the librarian’s permission.
If a student has an emergency, refer the student to the librarian.
Once a pass has been signed at time of exit, it cannot be used again.
Students do not have to sign-out if they leave when the period ends.
Please notify the librarian immediately if you have a problem.
ONLINE CATALOG:
- Check in, check out & renew media resources to patrons.
- In-house media resources used in the library.
- Clear Circulation Desk at the end of each class period.
OVERDUE BOOKS: DO NOT TAKE ANY MONEY!
- If the student is waiting to pay a fine & renew the book, please give the book to the librarian.
- If the student is not present or does not wish to pay the fine at this time, check in the book.
- If the student wishes to check out another book,
the book will be checked out for one day at a time until the fine is paid.
Use the special date feature on Atriuum to check out for one day;
write in the due date on the detuner tab.
RENEWALS:

To renew a book for another two week period,
the student must have the book in hand to be scanned.
PERIODICALS (Magazines):
Please ask the librarian for assistance if someone wants to check out a periodical.
PROCESSING MAGAZINES:
- Record magazine received by issue date in magazine index.
- Remove old issue from periodical shelf and file old issue under shelf.
- Place current issue magazines in alphabetical order by titles on periodical shelf.
NEWSPAPERS
- Current issues of the newspaper are displayed on the newspaper rack and are not circulated.
- Issues older than a month may be given to teachers and students for projects.
ROOM RESERVE BOOKS:
During the school day, students may use Room Reserve Books in the library only.
Room Reserve Books may be checked out overnight by students, but only after 3:00.
Follow the instructions listed below when a student wants to check out a Room Reserve Book overnight:
- Have the student complete the Room Reserve Sign-Out Sheet.
- Write tomorrow's date on a blank date due sticker and place in book.
- Remind the student that the fine is $1.00 per period late fee.
- Complete check out following catalog procedures.
Change the due date before scanning the book.
