LIBRARY MEDIA ASSISTANTS GUIDELINES
A good library assistant is cooperative and exhibits desirable personal characteristics, such as, promptness, efficiency, careful observance of rules and regulations, reliability, courtesy, initiative, and neat appearance. These personal qualities along with actual on the job training will guarantee you a successful year as a library assistant.
Librarians are frequently asked to write a recommendation for a scholarship or a job. Promptness, efficiency, following all rules and regulations, being reliable, courteous, taking initiative and having a neat appearance will guarantee that you will get a great rec.
CLASSROOM DECORUM
- Always complete your daily assignments/duties first.
Ask the librarian for permission to work on assignments from other classes.
- Please keep your personal belongings in the assigned area at all times.
- Model the policies governing the use of the library.
Set an example for others who use the library.
You cannot help enforce policies that you do not model.
- In order to respect the rights of others and to maintain an environment conducive to studying,
you are expected to speak softly at all times.
- When helping students, teachers, staff members and visitors,
please try to be as accommodating as possible.
Always be courteous to library patrons as well as to one another.
If you cannot answer a patron's question, always refer him/her to the librarian.
Be cordial to others but please do not socialize with friends during class time.
- Learn the location of all library materials so that you can answer directional questions.
LIBRARY ASSISTANTS EVALUATION
Grades are based on performance of duties (65%) and written assignments (35%). Grading procedures are in accordance with the MontgomeryPublic School Grading, Promotion, and Retention Procedures.
